Good morning Len, Concerning the first specimen, if possible, you should tell me the collecting area. If it is the province of Lai Châu (Vietnam) it is possible that it belongs to the species: fuliginosum because this species is described from a neighbouring province (Hua Phan in Laos) and I recently received an ex. from this station in Vietnam. In principle, typical ex. are ashy brown-black. Concerning the other ex. I have several specimens of Aegosoma of this type mainly from the provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai (Vietnam). They are close to the sinicum group while presenting some differences (habitus, elytral pilosity, length and ratio of the antennal segments) and can also be close to hainanense on some sides. We are currently doing quite a lot of work on this genus with A.D. and for the moment it is preferable to keep these specimens under the name sinicum ssp. |

Ok Len, Thank you for your precisions, the two ex. are thus of identical origin and are to be considered as sinicum ssp. See my answer in the next post. |
