coming back to this forgotten post: this spms belong to T. densepunctatus Breuning, 1939, the tomentation is bit variable and sometimes rubbed so its difficult to ID this sps by pictures. |

I've never seen material from this interesting location (Nakanai Mts.), I was only in north of New Britain (Rabaul, Kokopo). There is a possibility to get more material from this area, I like to see a spms of this probably new one. Indeed this sps is near to T. virescens and T. unipunctatus (common in NB) too.

The friend who give us specimens (to Gerard and me) knew that this species was possibly new (because of the collecting area).
So, I will describe this species with Gerard for our friend... |

I have put together similar sps & spms for comparison, T. virescens pteridii Gressitt, 1984 is the same like the nominative form (already published).
You are right the spm from Papua-Insects (location Wau) is according Gressitt's drawing and the same like my spms from Wau.
Your spm is a bit different and seems to be a new species. If you like, you can send it to me.

Yes, I saw the picture on Papua website.
The friend who gave me this specimen said me that the collecting area was not a busy place.

Size is ok (checked), and I know another specimen of 15 mm; location is certain: Muruk, 1360 m (New Britain).
I have found a picture of Tmesisternus virescens Breuning, 1939; my specimen shows a different apex and shining brown area are different... |
